I always enjoy your work. I think of them as "plump little paintings," in part because they are usually tight crops where the entire frame is filled, and I can feel the dimensionality of the objects and buildings almost directly. In this series, I most enjoy the thing painting. I like the jigsaw puzzle aspect to the comp a lot. In a number of your earlier pieces, I get a kick out of the fact that you have very playfully placed things dead center then toyed with destabilizing the comp from there.
I like the way you look at things and what you make out of it.
I'm totally copying your 'isolated vehicle sketches' idea now. There's something poetic about removing the element from its surroundings and just making the picture about that.

Hi Vicki, Thanks for stopping by. You must be a clairvoyant, because your comment about having a focal point dead center, and then building around it is basically my thought process as I paint these. I'd like to employ somewhat more elaborate composition schemes, but haven't gotten there just yet! The "vw thing" (and I'm flattered you can tell it IS that) was a '69 I think?, and definitely was amidst a jigsaw of colour!
Yeah, I see, representational Mondrians... (-: Also like the apple green pop top. I remember those--borrowed a friend's yellow one to move once!

Hey Dave, wow.. long time no talk! I'm sure I was traumatized driving around in that Chevy Nova, so maybe that's where my appreciation of slightly better mechanical design comes from LOL. Thanks for the crit and checking this stuff out. :D
